极其重要却容易被忽略的Essay写作要点

每年的申请季节，essay写作依旧是很多申请者关心的事情。然而我们发现，很多application essay依旧犯了那些老毛病，很多申请者一方面郁闷不知道怎么写essay，然而似乎又找不到时间去啃下一本本关于Essay Writing的硬货。因此，我们超级贴心地为大家贴出几项50 successful Ivy League Application Essays 中提到的一项常被申请者忽略但又极其重要的tip.
Q: Is there anything that a student might find surprising about what you are looking for in the essays?
A: I think students would be surprised to know that admissions officers aren't looking for anything exotic. The more specific examples you can use, the more you can make it a story with very specific details, the better. You want to be able to picture what the person looks like, what it would be like to sit in a room and have a conversation with the person. The essay should make the admissions officers feel like they've had a conversation with you and want to learn more. It's not more esoteric than that.
解读：
1 Admissions officers aren't looking for anything exotic.
这一项估计很多写作者都没有想到， 把大量的时间用于钻研- Be different. 其实 Be different是ok的，但并不意味着要“那么那么”地剑走偏锋，各种奇异。
那么，如何表现特征呢？
2The more you can make it a story with very specific details, the better.
细节，还是细节。
写作时不要过于ambitious想把自己的十八般武艺全部堆出来。Essay不是resume，不用一个list列下。Essay写作，不妨选定一个主题/特征，围绕这个主题，以最相关的细节表现你的故事。 当大家看完上一条【细节】也许又容易入另一个坑，细节记成流水账。那么，来看这条：
The essay should make the admissions officers feel like they've had a conversation with you and want to learn more.
读完你的essay，AO的感受是和你本人进行了一次愉快的谈话。 不仅如此，essay还让AO想更多地了解你。
大家不妨试着回想自己曾经经历过的愉快谈话，谈话的氛围，谈话的内容，谈话的节奏...
Essay要让AO想更多地了解你，试着在essay细节中多关注你的思考过程，而不仅仅是某个事件本身。
比如，你选定某个曾做过的science project为essay主题，那么细节多关注于：你做这个project的动机、你解决问题的思考过程、你学到了什么、而不仅仅是描述project的步骤一、步骤二... (Wait，research类文书，如RP还是要描述清楚步骤的啦！)
